2023
IHL enjoyed an excellent Association of Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies Convention in Seattle, Washington in November 2023! Research led by Debbie Torres, Kennedy Anderson, and Ema Kiser were presented at the conference. (Though sadly, some members weren't able to attend due to COVID-19 illness!). Thankfully, IHL first year doctoral student, Alice Ahn, did a great job standing in to help with presentations! Great work, all!

Chelsea Ratcliff, along with Ryan Marek in the Department of Psychology and colleagues in SHSU's College of Osteopathic Medicine, was awarded seed funding to conduct a study examining the feasibility of a one-day Acceptance and Commitment Therapy workshop for individuals with type 2 diabetes living in rural communities! The IHL had a wonderful time in San Juan, Puerto Rico for the American Psychosomatic Society's Annual Meeting in March, 2023! Kennedy Anderson, Robin Semelsberger, Cayla Hari, and Debbie Torres presented their research, learned from others in the field, and enjoyed the sights of PR! 2022
Dr. Chelsea Ratcliff, in collaboration with Dr. Radha Korupolu at TIRR/Memorial Hermann Hospital, received an 3-year R34 award from the NIH's National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health in June! This project will examine the feasibility and acceptability of using a mindfulness meditation app-based intervention compared to a psycho-educational app-based intervention for 6 weeks among individuals with spinal cord injury and chronic pain. We look forward to carrying out this project!

Ema Kiser successfully defended her dissertation titled, "Understanding adherence to Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) in clinicians who treat eating disorders: A Self-Determination Theory approach." She was selected to deliver an oral presentation on this project at the International Conference on Eating Disorders this June!

Shaelyn Fowler successfully defended her thesis titled "Focused attention meditation versus open monitoring meditation during attention network task: Examining a meta-cognitive model of mindfulness" and graduated from the Master's in Clinical Psychology Program! Congratulations, Shaelyn!
Ema Kiser, Kelsey Sinclair, and Emily Tullos' poster presentation titled "Associations between Disordered Eating and Body Focused Repetitive Behavior in College Students" was awarded the Raymond Corsini Student Poster Award for Division 1 (General Psychology) at the American Psychological Association's 2020 Convention! Great work!
Kelsey Sinclair, Melissa Sartain, and Emily Tullos all successfully defended their theses AND graduated from the Master's in Clinical Psychology program! A big congratulations to them for their perseverance and their many contributions to the lab!
- Kelsey's thesis was titled: Examining psychological symptoms as moderator of the effect of a yoga intervention on sleep and fatigue in breast cancer survivors undergoing chemotherapy

Amy Senger was awarded the competitive Cancer Prevention Research Training Program Summer Research Experience Fellowship at MD Anderson Cancer Center this summer! Unfortunately, the fellowship has been put on hold due to COVID-19, but we're proud of Amy's accomplishment at getting accepted and hope the program can resume in 2021!

Emily Tullos was awarded the competitive Cancer Prevention Research Training Program Summer Research Experience Fellowship at MD Anderson Cancer Center this summer! During her fellowship, she developed a protocol for conducting a systematic review of Weight Loss Interventions for Hispanic Americans, which she presented at the CPRTP Summer Trainee Exposition in August. Great job, Emily!
This March, Addie Goodson successfully defended her thesis, titled "Mindfulness-Based Therapies for Survivors of Childhood Adversity: What's the Use?" Great job, Addie!
Emily Tullos presented preliminary results of her thesis, titled "Attitudes, Norms, and Behavioral Control Factors Influencing Cervical Cancer Screening in Hispanic Americans" at the Gulf Coast Consortium Health Psychology & Behavioral Medicine Conference" at Rice University this March.

Emily Hardy was awarded the SHSU McNair Scholarship this year, and presented her findings at the Texas Psychological Association's annual convention this October! Great job, Emily!
- In November, Dr. Ratcliff was awarded the Excellence in Research and Evaluation Award by the Collaborative Family Healthcare Association for her work examining the cost of providing brief Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to medically ill primary care patients.
